High River is one of those Alberta towns with more layers than people expect. It’s a ranching community with 14,000 people, about 45 minutes south of Calgary on Highway 2. But it’s also the town where CBC filmed “Heartland” — which means it draws visitors from across the country who come to see the landscapes they’ve been watching on TV. And it’s the town that took the 2013 flood straight on, rebuilt, and came back with the kind of stubborn community pride that only real hardship produces. All of that history shows up in the way High River celebrates. Events here mean something.
We’ve played High River events where the crowd included ranchers who’ve been in the area for three generations standing next to tourists who drove from Ontario because they loved the show. That’s an interesting room to play. You need range — not just genre range (though we cover rock, pop, country, R&B, funk, and everything in between) but emotional range. The ability to read what a crowd actually wants in the moment and give it to them. That comes from playing 3,000+ shows, not from having a good playlist.
Ranch and agricultural events — This is High River’s backbone. Working ranches host celebrations that bring together families and communities with deep ties to the land. These events tend to be multi-generational, outdoor, and long. The kind of night where the band plays until people finally stop requesting songs. We love these gigs because the energy is completely genuine — nobody’s performing being interested, they’re just having a great time.
Community fundraisers — High River rallied hard after the flood, and that spirit of showing up for each other hasn’t faded. Benefit events, charity galas, community drives — live music adds energy and draws people out. We’ve donated our time to some of these and played others at full rate, and the crowds are always incredible.
Heartland tourism events — The show put High River on the map for a completely different audience. Tourism operators and local businesses have leaned into this, creating events and experiences for visitors. Live music with an authentic Western flavour fits perfectly here — and our setlist goes deep enough into country that we’re not faking it.
Rodeo and Western events — George Lane Memorial Park, the Highwood landscape, the whole cowboy culture of the region — this is rodeo country. Afterparties, pre-events, and standalone celebrations all benefit from a band that understands the energy of a Western crowd without reducing it to a stereotype.
The Highwood Memorial Centre is your main indoor option for larger events. High River Golf Course works beautifully for corporate and upscale gatherings. Emerson Trail Park and the broader Highwood River valley provide stunning outdoor settings when the weather cooperates (and sometimes when it doesn’t — Alberta). The Museum of the Highwood is worth mentioning for smaller cultural events where live acoustic music adds atmosphere.
But again, a lot of the best High River events happen on private property. Ranches with space, views, and the kind of natural setting that no event venue can replicate. We bring everything we need through our Fermi Audio Visual partnership — sound, lighting, and the experience to make outdoor shows sound as clean as indoor ones.
We play events throughout the region — Longview, Nanton, and the area around Bar U Ranch National Historic Site.
