What to know before you book — from a band that's played 3,000+ shows
Calgary’s event scene is booming. Between Stampede, the corporate gala circuit, and the sheer number of backyard parties that happen between May and September, there’s no shortage of demand for live music. But here’s the thing — most people have never hired a band before. They don’t know what questions to ask, what a fair price looks like, or how to tell a tight, professional act from a group of guys who rehearse in their garage once a month.
We’ve been on the other side of that equation for over 15 years. We’ve played corporate galas at the Fairmont Palliser where the CEO specifically requested we learn their company’s fight song. We’ve played Stampede afterparties where 400 people in cowboy hats wouldn’t let us stop. We’ve played backyard birthdays where the neighbours called — not to complain, but to ask if they could come over.
This page is everything we wish someone had told us when we were starting out — and everything we tell our clients when they’re booking for the first time.
They should have video from real gigs. Not a studio recording — actual footage from an actual event. You want to see how they handle a room. Are people dancing or standing around with their arms crossed? That tells you everything.
Ask about their gear situation. A band that shows up with their own professional sound and lighting is a different animal than one that needs you to rent a PA system. At our shows, we partner with Fermi Audio Visual and bring concert-grade production to every event — from a 50-person backyard party to a 500-seat gala at the BMO Centre.
Find out how they handle setlists. Some bands play the same 40 songs every night and that’s it. We carry a catalogue of 200+ songs across rock, pop, country, R&B, and dance — and we customize every set based on who’s in the room and what the event calls for.
Check if they’ve played your kind of event before. A band that kills it at a pub on a Friday night might completely misread the room at a corporate awards dinner. You want experience across event types.
Let’s cut through the mystery. Most professional bands for hire in Calgary charge somewhere between $2,500 and $8,000+ for a full evening. That range depends on a few things: how long you need them, what kind of event it is, whether they’re bringing their own sound and lighting, and how many musicians are on stage.
The cheap end of the market — under $1,500 — is usually a part-time band with a basic PA and a limited song list. That might work fine for a casual pub night, but if you’re running a corporate event or a milestone celebration, cutting corners on entertainment is a gamble. Your guests will notice.
On the other end, you’ll find acts charging $10,000+ who are typically touring artists doing one-off private bookings. Great if you have the budget, but for most events in Calgary, a seasoned local act with professional production delivers the same impact at a fraction of the cost.
Our quotes include everything — performance, sound, lighting, setup, teardown, and travel within Calgary. No hidden fees, no surprise invoices after the event. We’ll give you an honest number upfront and stick to it.
Corporate galas and awards nights — This is where a DJ and a live band are worlds apart. A DJ keeps background noise going. A live band creates a moment. We’ve done hundreds of corporate events at venues like the Hyatt Regency, the Calgary Petroleum Club, and the Telus Convention Centre. The energy shift when the band kicks in after dinner is something you have to see to understand.
Stampede parties — July in Calgary is our Super Bowl. We play Stampede events almost every night for three weeks straight. The crowd wants country, they want rock, they want to sing along to songs they know. We deliver all of it with the kind of energy that matches the boots-and-hats chaos of Stampede season.
Backyard parties and milestones — These are some of our favourite gigs. There’s something about playing a 50th birthday party in someone’s backyard in Aspen Woods where the host’s kids are dancing with their grandparents. We bring the full setup, keep the volume neighbourhood-friendly, and make it a night the host gets thanked for all year.
Holiday parties — From November through New Year’s, we’re booked almost every weekend. Company Christmas parties, year-end celebrations, New Year’s Eve countdowns. These dates go fast — we usually start filling our holiday calendar by August.
Promo reels are nice, but nothing beats raw footage from a real event. This is us doing what we do — no studio tricks, no overdubs, just three guys and a packed room.
Over 15 years, we’ve played just about every type of venue Calgary has to offer. Here’s a partial list — and it’s one of the reasons event planners trust us. We know these rooms. We know the acoustics, the load-in logistics, and what kind of set works in each space.

“Wake Up Starlight absolutely crushed it at our corporate gala. The energy was incredible from the first song. Every single guest was on the dance floor by the end of the night.”
— DAVID K., FAIRMONT PALLISER
“We hired them for our company holiday party and they were professional from start to finish. The mix of pop, rock and country had something for everyone. Already rebooked for next year.”
— AMANDA T., HYATT REGENCY CALGARY
“Hands down the best live band we’ve ever had at our venue. They read the crowd perfectly, the sound was pristine, and the lead singer’s energy is contagious.”
— SARAH L., THE GLENCOE CLUB
We’re not the only band in Calgary. But most of our bookings come from repeat clients and referrals — and that’s not an accident. After 3,000+ shows, we’ve learned that the music is only half the job. The other half is being easy to work with, showing up on time, reading the room, and making the event planner look like a genius for hiring us.
Caleb, Chris, and David have been playing together since 2009. That chemistry — knowing when to push the energy up, when to pull back for a cocktail set, when to call an audible and switch from the planned setlist because the room is telling us something different — that only comes from thousands of hours on stage together.
If you’re looking for a band to hire in Calgary that treats your event like it’s the most important gig on our calendar — because it is — get in touch. We’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right fit.
